Andy,
I teach high school welding in Arizona and will be taking one of my first year students. He surprized me by taking the gold in state, I underestimated him and now I'm sure he'll do well in nationals. I took a second year student last year and found it to be a great opportunity for myself and the student to network and get a feel for their peers across the country. The atmosphere is more relaxed than at the state competition and there's more things for the students to participate in during the week. Over all it's a great time and a great experience for all participants. Good luck to you and your student! Which state are your representing?
