Hello,
I am new to the AWS and have a lot of questions.  One pertinent question is what criteria can cause a welder to fail the certification test?

Better question - What does the welder have to do to pass a qualification test?

1) Follow a WPS, including welding within the ranges listed by the WPS.
2) Weld the coupon in the specified position as specified.
3) Meet the visual acceptance criteria.
4) Meet the destructive tests or volumetric tests as required by the applicable code.
5) Follow any directions given, such as use no power tools when qualifying in accordance with AWS D1.5.

Violate one or more of the items listed and the welder fails the qualification test.

The Certified Welding Inspector Exam, administered by the AWS, is a highly esteemed exam in the welding industry. Many welding companies look to certified welding inspectors when seeking the highest quality welding work.

The exam itself is made up of three sections:

Part A- Fundamentals
Part B-Practical
Part C- Code Application
