Dear Engineers,

Please advice on minimum distance between splice weld in I beam.
As per AWS.
In my case 300mm is the distance between splice weld (Due to unavoidable situation like crane capacity, crane radius and etc) , Member depth 1600mm, width of flange is 500mm, flange thickness is 150mm and 80mm web thick.

Ask the project engineer. They are the only ones that can answer that for you.

My question is as per codal provision what is the minimum distance between one weld splice to another?

Code does not answer that, the Engineer answers that. There are so many factors that play into that determination, that the code cannot make that call, it is up to the Engineer. Period.

Can any help me please.

A welder qualified to make arc spot welds on 20 gage steel deck is also qualified to weld:

a. 22 gage steel deck
b. 18 gage steel deck
c. 18 through 22 gage steel deck
c. None of the above
