anyone know much about this product. I had heard the maxstar 140 would not run a 6010 very well. supposedly this unit solves the problem.

The 140 will not run 5-P (6010). It's like trying to run 6010 on AC. I tried it just last week on an outage using 110V. I don't think it would be any different on 220V. It does OK with 7018.
The 150 was made long before the 140 and I don't think the 150 is currently available. I have a 152 Maxstar (also no longer available) it does OK with 6010, nothing spectacular.
Yes, that's correct. They replaced a machine that worked with one that doesn't!!!!

PS, that is if all my info is correct. Ted

according to miller the 150 IS the upgrade from the 140 and will run 6010 much better than its forerunner. some are listed on the internet already and claim to have some "adaptive hot-start feature". I don't know what to believe. One of the local shops here is said to be demo-ing the 150 in their upcoming hot rod show. Guess I'll just see what I hear about it.

my experience with the maxstar 140 has mostly been heliarc on sanitary stainless pipe. for which ther is nothing more efficient and user friendly running on 110. if you swap to 220 it runs 3\32 6010,7018, and 308 fairly well although i wouldnt want to test with one.

hey bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,
The 150 is the upgrade to the 140. It appears that Miller took all of the input from users of the 140 and rolled some changes into the design. The 150 has a hot-start feature, gas valve,post-flow control, full-remote, better duty-cycle, and a higher frequency switching inverter (100Khz). The hot-start feature efffectively doubles the amperage as set by the dial, for a brief 100msec or so. It the weldor is still dragging the rod, and stumbling along, then a fixed amount of 'dig' increases the amperage somewhat linearly below an arc voltage of 19volts or so. Some suppliers are advertising the 150 now, but Miller won't put it on it's websites until all the dealers have the goods. Hope that helps.

well i don't follow all of what you said, but it sounds like it might be time to consider selling my millermatic and getting a maxstar. Oh, you spelled my name wrong... it has 10 z's. thanks for the info!

dseman,
Where did you find the info on the new Maxstar 150. All I was able to find info on was the old Maxstar 150, 151 and 152 all of which were predecessors of the 140.

Ted,
As I stated in my earlier note, and as you have found personally, the maxstar 150STL is currently not found on the miller website. In fact, I was not able to even find the maxstar 140 listed in the products section anymore-- though the owner's manual is still available. I found my info. from www.brwelder.com and brwelder's product listing on ebay. The info. on the hot-start and dig functions are based on reading patents. Oh yeah, standard and 2T remote selectable trigger is also a change for the new model.

that's where i saw it offered for purchase. the miller rep did answer an e-mail i sent him and claimed it to be a new replacement for the 140. also stated it ran 6010 type electrodes much better than the 140. it's about $1000 for the whole kit with stick welding elctrode holder/ground clamp, tig torch, regulator, gas solenoid, foot control, and case. dc only.
