What code does welding on a crane man basket fall into.  I don’t have any code books nor am I code welder but the company I work for just had a basket repaired by an inspector and everything looks horrible. If asking for information on the specifications to the code is out of line I’m sorry. Thanks for any help and input

From an article  I read, the welding should conform to AWS D 14.3

"Man Baskets : Designing, Engineering, and Operating" by Sparta Engineering

Which also states "similar standards may be used provided they meet or exceed these mentioned welding standards" and ... "It shall only be modified or repaired according to the manufacturers specifications or under the direction of a qualified engineer."

How do you know when a standard "meets or exceeds" another?

I guess you would look at the acceptance criteria side by side and evaluate them.

That's why it stipulates an engineer must make the judgement  :)
