Hello,

We have some problems for puddle welding on G-X260CrMoNi20 2 1 material valse(D. 1750mm). Please help us to fill 50mm appropriate welding wire with FCAW on position PA according to WPQR-01.
Which welding wire should be choose and what will be the temperature and the travel speed for workpiece.

Define “puddle weld”

Define “valse”

This is a power plant coal pulvarizer valse. We need to fill wearing areas.

So he is asking about prep for hard surfacing on a part of a roll-wheel type coal pulverizer (See Babcock and Wilcox site for details - parts) ???
Parent - - By atflosmn Date 08-19-2019 14:58
Exactly! It's about 62 hrc after welding and the workpiece surface should not cracking.

What is the current hardness? Before welding - Did you check?
Parent - - By atflosmn Date 08-19-2019 20:52
It is 58-63 hrc.

Check-out Weld Mold. Give them a call they have some knowledgable people..

Lawrence,
AKA plug weld, Arc plug weld. Puddle weld is the slang for those terms. Just an FYI.

When someone says puddle weld, I think of Arc Spot welds from AWS D1.3. I guess plug welds are a form of puddle welding.

Yep, your right, Arc plug weld is also a term used in D1.3.

In Canadian welding education, it means running a bead on a surface, not a joint, and is usually referred to as "puddle-beading". Not sure what it is in code.

So now that we have the "puddle weld" term figured out, we can comment on the original post. If what you describe is correct, then you would need a WPS. You mention a "WPQR-01". Is that your WPS? If so there should be welding parameters and filler metal listed on it.   If you don't have one, then you most likely will need to qualify one. The last coal burner I was involved in was Spruce II in San Antonio Texas, and oddly enough the coal handling piping was to AWS D1.1. The ASTM equivalent to your listed material is A532. That material is not listed in AWS D1.1, so you would need to qualify a PQ. It would be problematic for one us to just tell you what wire, and parameters to run. My thoughts anyway.
