I have a question regarding the maximum weld sizes for .045 ER70S-6 wire, we are welding on A36 and grade 50 plate, and the question would be what is the maximum single pass fillet a person can on 1/4" to 3/8" plate...….next I would say the particular joint would be more of a Flare lap joint if that make sense... the tall side of the joint is 1/4" plate that is butted next to a 3/8"  plate. The 1/4 plate is bent and the flange is what is butted next to the end of the 3/8" plate the 1/4" plate sticks out 3/8"  from the 3/8" plate and a weld goes on to that joint.... so what could be the maximum weld in that particular joint with .045 ER70S-6 ….. i also have a copy of D1.1 if someone can reference me somewhere in that???? thanks for any help!

I don't believe D1.1 sets a limit on maximum weld bead size by wire diameter.

It does set some limits for Prequalified WPSs (Table 3.6) based on process/position used, Para 3.7.3.2 sets a different limit for weathering type steels.

The maximum sizes listed for weathering steels only apply if a matching (weathering) filler metal is not used. If the filler metal has weathering characteristics, the maximum size of a single pass weld is as listed in the table for prequalified welds, unless the contractor qualifies a WPS with large welds.
