Hey, How about that select-arc wire ??

What do you want to know? We have successfully tried Select-arc 720 in a NYSDOT procedure qualificaton. All criteria were good. The test showed a higher percentage of elongation than with Lincoln O.S. 71M.

Some welders didn't like it because it wouldn't break off easily at the contact tip, but then again neither does some of the ESAB or Trimark wires that these same people do like.

A salesman had tried to say the 720 smoked less that the Lincoln wire we currently use. When both wires were tested side by side and the SAME parameters, we couldn't tell the difference.

TWG:
Have used their 70C-7 composite (metal core) wire. It is good stuff. A comparison like the one by CHG is a good idea though. Also ask your suppier for a $ comparison as well. Usually based on quantity.

Currently, Lincoln is sending there people in the field to sell wire. This will cut out the middle man (Praxair, Airgas, etc.). It sounds good. Not sure if this is a good move for Lincoln, I think they will reap short-term profits. This is due to the rising use of ESAB/Hobart,etc. wires and such. IMHO this will hurt them in the long run. The suppliers are starting to NOT sell Lincoln consumables here in the West. One of my clients is still getting their ESAB-FCAW wire for less $ than buying it directly from Lincoln.
