4140 HR does not appear to be a prequalified material in D1.1.

This job was already released to manufacturing, so does anyone have any recommendations as how to proceed, without performing testing?

If the contract references AWS D1.1, you need to follow the code or risk legal action by the customer or the party that is injured due to your employer's negligence.

I am also concerned, but we own the design.
The engineering group advised the weld is not safety related.

If qualifying the weld is the last resort, we will comply.

However, are there other options for consideration?

Owning the design doesn't relieve the contractor from meeting the requirements of a code if it is invoked by a customer.

I’m willing to wager the value of time/delay spent by these clowns arguing against doing it right would have paid for the PQR’s several times over.
