Hi, i have some questions regarding with a5.36 open classification system , is it a mandatory to make a classification test for fcaw or gmaw  electrode prior to the preparation of pre-qualified wps? . because if you look on the table 3.4 the only available classification for a5.36 is only for the mechanical properties classification, as welded and  weld metal classification. they did not include the position, type of shielding gas and usability designator. thanks in advance.

If it is a prequalified WPS, there is no requirement (that I am aware of) to perform a qualification test of the filler metal. The manufacturer is responsible to qualify the filler metal to "certify" as meeting particular classification. The classification determines what specific tests must be performed by the manufacturer. The electrode classification indicates what gas was used, whether it was tested in the as welded or post weld heat treated conditions, whether CVN was met and at what test temperature, etc.
