Hi

This is a rather broad question, because you get cast steel that is equivalent to almost all the wrought steel grades. They are typically welded with procedures that are similar to those of the wrought material forms. What are you particularly interested in?

If is is cast steel, a 7018 or similar electrode or wire should work well.
Cast steel is not cast iron!!

Good Luck

Hi

Assuming that your cast steel is a cast Carbon or Carbon Manganese steel, it should weld well with the E7018 electrode. You will just have to ensure that you give it the correct pre-heats, based on the material thickness. (In castings this can often be rather substantial.)

In addition, you must check your material specification for the heat treatment condition of your valve. You may need to perform a PWHT, although this will probably not be essential if it is a carbon steel.

Make sure you have checked with the valve manufacturer that welding to the valve body does not damage seals etc. I have had valve seals damaged simply by the process of welding the valve in the line (ignoring the manufacturers instructions of course.)
