Up Topic Welding Industry / Technical Discussions / WPS Qualification - CJP Groove Welds, AWS D1.1 2015 vs. 2020

Looking at AWS D1.1-2015 Table 4.2, WPS Qualification - CJP Groove Welds: Number and Type of Test Specimens and Range of Thickness and Diameter Qualified, there is a footnote d that states that a "CJP groove weld qualification on any thickness shall qualify any size of fillet or PJP groove weld for any thickness (see 4.11.3)". Paragraph 4.11.3 discusses macroetch verification requirement for PJPs.

With all that being said, when I look at AWS D1.1-2020 I cannot find the equivalent language of footnote d. Particularly I am interested in the "...shall qualify any size of fillet" portion.

Have you ran into this issue yet?

In 2020 Revision see
6.12 (4)  For PJP

For CJP see Table 6.1

Change is always tricky, but I think they put the information into text and tables and got it out of the hard to find footnote.

I was seeing much the same thing but it wasn't as clear cut as it was in the 2015 language.
