Gents,
Have only just discovered this great forum and I am really enjoying wading through some of the past postings.
Noticed a posting from CHGuilford in May that generated a fair bit of discussion and thought I would pose a question.
Prior to obtaining my inspectors certification I spent 16 years as a coded pipe welder and we always associated the term " Low Hy electrode" with SMAW E7018 ( E4818 in Australia)
However, looking in my CIGWELD Welding Consumables Handbook it shows some interesting results.
SMAW E7018 8.5-9.0 mls of Hydrogen/per 100 gms deposited weld metal
SMAW E8018 3.0-3.5 mls of Hydrogen/per 100 gms deposited weld metal
FCAW E71T-1 5.0-6.0 mls of Hydrogen/per 100 gms deposited weld metal
GMAW ER70S-4 1.0-2.0 mls of Hydrogen/per 100 gms deposited weld metal
I don't know if it clarifies the subject or makes it more confusing.
Kind Regards,
Shane
