Michael,

Here is a link mentioned by billvanderhoof in an earlier post:
http://www.adtdl.army.mil/cgi-bin/atdl.dll/tc/9-237/toc.htm

It is an Army welding manual and it is a great resource. Some sections are very appropriate for studying for the CWI examination and there is a good definition section. I always stress the importance of definitions when studying for the CWI. Since the questions are multiple choice, sometimes the answers are very similar.

Be sure to read through the old posts in this section for some excellent advice on the CWI examination. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

ASME Sec IX has some terms and definitions but I am pretty sure most if not all of the welding related terms you need for the CWI exam will be contained in A3.0. I would stick with that document for study purposes. The AWS Welding Handbook Volume 1 has a pretty extensive set of the terms and definiions in A3.0.

I have reprinted with permission the data contained in ASME Sec IX definitions. Some of these are from A3.0. There are two pages. One that allows you to "filter" the words you want to see based on a word or phrase within the definition. That page is at http://www.weldinginspectionsvcs.com/keyword_lookup.asp . The other page is at http://www.weldinginspectionsvcs.com/welding_terms_and_definitions_lo.asp

If you don't have a 3.0 I would highly recommend it.

Have a good day
