Has anyone used a "Stainless Steel Back-up Flux" with their TIG welds? The Tin Man web site is selling it. I was wondering if it worked and what you thought of using a "Flux Paste" instead of back gassing the weld with argon.

Thanks in advanced,

James Nichols

Stainless Steel Back-up Flux
Improve your MIG and TIG welds! Coat the reverse side of the material before you weld and this back-up flux will make the back side of your weld smooth & even with great penetration. Perfect for header and pipe work, better air flow.

there is an interesting article in the weld journal about this subject. I am inclined to think that the flux paste is not a substitute for purging gasses but rather the flux enables the GTAW process to have better penetration. to find futher information on this subject check the August 2000 Weld Journal, page 65.
