Hello,
We are looking for a new way which is faster, easier and less intrusive in terms of Heat Affected Zone to remove becking strips from certification coupons. We currently scarf with OxyAcet or Carbon Arc.
Has anyone seen or used "a better idea" ?

Regards, Don CWE/CWI

Hi Don,

We use a band saw. After removal of the strip, we sand the back of the plates with a belt sander.

It's not what you would call fast, but we can keep up with 6 welders at a time...

We use a horizontal milling machine with a 3/4" high speed endmill. We can remove a 1/8" backing strip from the 1.5" wide coupon in 2 passes of the endmill removing .065 per pass.
