I am looking for a calculation to determine deposition rates for SAW. Preferable for twin-arc welding. (i.e two wires, one power source.)

Any help would be appreciated.

If you mean pounds of weld metal per hour, then for 2 wire SAW it would be:

deposition rate = [wire feed speed1 x 60 x (wire diameter1 x wire diameter1)/4 x pi x density of wire1] + [wire feed speed2 x 60 x (wire diameter2 x wire diameter2)/4 x pi x density of wire2]

depsotion rate in lb/hr
wire feed speed in in/min
wire diameter in inches
pi = 3.1414
density of wire in lbs/cubic inch
(steel = 0.284 lb/cubic inch)

This works as-is for subarc where the deposition efficiency = 100%. For other processes, the deposition efficiency must be adjusted to account for stub loss.

Marty,

I was talking about lbs/hr. Thank you for the quick reply.
