We have a PQR writen in accordance with ASME Section IX. and our welders are qualified to that procedure.
My question is:
Do we need to have a new PQR and WPS to weld in accordance with AWS D17.1 and meet the requirements of AWS B2.1?

qa:
I saw this post in the other forum.
I am still trying to figure out why your referencing the AWS aerospace specification combined with the AWS - WPS/WPQ specification(?)

Well heres the deal,
We have a new job coimg up and we are not sure if we need to re-certify or welders.
The requirements state:
All welds shall be full penetration welds per AWS D17.1:2001.
also all welders must be certified to AWS d17.1:2001 and the welding procedures shall be qualified in accordance with the requirements of AWS B2.1.

The AWS B2.1 (Table 2.1) specification requires additional testing to that required by ASME Section IX. You noted in your initial post your PQR was qualified to Section IX. Performance qualification to D17.1 requires eye exams for the welders (4.2.1).

1.) What type of weld classification does the project requirements specify for the D17.1 (A, B or C)?
2.) Which material group does the project requirements specify (Group IA, IB, IIA, IIB, etc.)?
3.) What material format is used (tube or sheet)?

I recommend getting your hands on copies of the AWS B2.1:2000 and D17.1:2001 specifications. My guess is you get to re-qualify the procedure and the welders.

Can I get back to you first thing in the morning?
It's because our facility closes at 4pm.
I get in about 7am, I really appreciate your help.
weld class is "C"
I need to check on those other questions.
thanks
