Has anyone any info as to the do's and don'ts of welding these metals with TIG.

Pre-heat material, DC current, I have some Ampco 10 filler rod that I believe we used for brass welding. I do remember when laying down a weld that if I went back over the weld to build it up, it just didn't look as good as the first pass did.

What rod for Bronze ? Would this be Silicon Bronze?

What about Copper ? I tried this with copper rod a year or so back, just didn't look the best

I used AC for GTAW bronze many years ago and used the silicn bronze rod. I worked beautifully for me, try it and see. I wouldn't use any preheat for bronze however. When welding copper a high preheat is required but not for bronze/silicon bronze. Let us know how it comes out, okay?

Thanks jon for your reply. I thought Dc was used but I'll give it a try.

I see how there is aluminum bronze rod like silicon bronze. I believe aluminum bronze is for castings, and silicon bronze for others or what?

I used AC today and it worked great compared to DC, in DC the weld puddle would pop. Puddle ran smooth in AC with silicon bronze and also used Ampco 10 which ran good.

Any more info and or web links you guys have will be greatly appreciated.

Would I have more strength in using aluminum bronze filler rod then silicon bronze rod?
