there are some nickel alloy filler metals that will do the job. I suggest looking at http://www.specialmetalswelding.com/publica/joining.pdf for general guidance and http://www.specialmetalswelding.com/products/mig/mig.htm for specifics of some of the weld metals. I know joining stainless to steel is common using Inco 82, but I'm not sure if a buffer layer of something else (like Ni-Rod 44) is advisable on the surface of the cast iron before joining the stainless to it. It may be sufficient to overlay the surface of the cast iron with the Inco 82 nickel alloy filler metal then weld the stainless to the nickel weld metal deposit. Typical practice for cast iron welding includes high preheat of the cast iron and slow cooling.
