Our shop has been asked by another division in our company to repair a REMCO root rake with damaged teeth. Teeth are 1.5 and 2" thick X 6" deep. According to a source with a local heavy equipment repair facility I am told the material is AG360 or T1. Neither material am I familiar with. He said it needed 200-250°F preheat, interpass and postheat. Use 7018 or 71M. He suggested gusset plates both sides.

Also, teeth have a hardfacing material weaved on the tips. Source thought it probably was 3116? or 3108?. Sorry but I have no clues. Out of my realm of expertise. Any thoughts?

Anyone agree or disagree with probable base materials. Does general welding procedure using temperatures and fillers sound correct? Any recommendations or thoughts welcome.

I use E11018-M H4R electrodes for T1

Here is some information on T-1.

If you want a full strength butt joint, 11018M would be a good choice. 7018 is much weaker than T-1 plate. If you are doing fillet welds, an oversized 7018 joint would probably work ok. Preheat would be required for T-1, but without knowing for sure what your base metal is, it is hard to know for sure what to preheat to.
