Does anyone know what the composition or comperable alloy to repalce ASTM A 301 Grade B- I have been asked for welding info but since the specification was dropped from ASTM in 1956 I cannot find any information- any held would be great.

This was all I could find for you. Basically it says that it has been replaced by ASTM A387.

Thanks for the help, that is all I could find also- I guess I need someone with so really old school ASTM books.

Try the library at an engineering school, usually friendly, often have old stuff like this salted away for research value.

The web link that describes the standard as having been dropped also allows you to purchase a copy of the old spec. The cost of the spec is probably less than the cost of your time spent running around trying to find old copies in libraries unless you can search their catalogues on-line.

Look on Ebay and Half.com as both have older welding book for sale constantly.
