In the AWS D1.1 ASTM 572 grade 50 is listed as M1,group II and also A992 is listed the same. In AWS B2.1 the same materials are listed as M1 Group 1. Does any one know why the difference or is it a mistake?

Hi farland,
I'm not sure these two tables are related. Table 3.1 in D1.1:2004 is a prequalified Base-Filler combination (per D1.1:2004 para. 3.3) and the Table IV-1 in B2.1 is grouping of base metals only, for easy reference when determining what grouping a particular base metal spec. falls. (per B2.1:2000 para. IV 1)
Take a look at A852 it is in group 11 in B2.1, and in group IV in D1.1. So I don't think the groupings are going to be the same.
Maybe someone else has a better explanation.
