Dear pple,

I cannot find the P-No for SAE 4130 and 4140 in the ASME IX code book.

Can I group them togther for WPS since both of them belongs to the HSLA metal?

Thanks

If you intend to qualify a WPS in accordance with ASME Section IX, the answer is no.

For WPS qualification of an "unassigned (P number) material" refer to QW-424.1. Basically, if the UNS numbers of the materials are the same they may be qualified under one PQR.

4130 has UNS numbers of G41300, H41300, J13048
4140 has UNS numbers of G41400, J14047, H41400

ps: even though you didn't ask, you will also have to qualify the welders on each specific unassigned material as well.
