As you konw an increase or decrease in passes number in groove area needs requalification.
Now I want to know where the number of passes mention in WPS?

When I have to show the number of passes on a WPS, I put the info in with the joint detail. I sketch out the bead placement sequence and I make sure to indicate that the passes may vary within the percentage allowed and that actual bead placement may vary within reason, according to actual conditions.

If you will notice, that essential variable was removed in the 2004 edition. I never could figure out why it was in there anyway since they already had the heat input nailed down like a dog on a 6 inch chain with the electrical/travel speed limitations.

I was thinking that was covered by verbage like maximum thickness per pass instead of number or welds?

There is not a reference to the number of beads in a groove weld except where going from single pass to multi pass or vice versa and that is only if charpy is required.

Number of passes is not an essential. If you want to write something, write multipass or "Fill".
