Does anybody have experience with silicon bronze MIG wire and argon? I have a large project planned welding old corrugated galvanized roofing panels to copper plumbing tubing and steel rods. I would appreciate any tips. It will be built upright rather than on a bench, so brazing is probably too time consuming and labor intensive.

Thanks,

Bettye,

Silicon bronze, AWS classification ERCuSi-A, should work well for joining the galvanized roofing to mild steel rods. I haven't tried welding copper tubing with MIG, but it may work OK. You'll have to try it on some scraps and see how it does. You might try posting this question on the metalshapers.org forum also. There are some pretty sharp folks there that are experienced with all kinds of materials for automotive, aircraft, artwork and other applications. I've found them to be very helpful.
