I'm stuck using ASME Section IX (Circa 1989) for writting a procedure. Joining Alloy 2219 to Alloy 2219 using Alloy 2319. Any guesses on the "P" number for the 2219 or the "F" number for the 2319?

2000 Series Aluminum Alloy; Aluminum Alloy; Metal; Nonferrous Metal.
You 2319 is SFA-5.10 F No. 25 See ASME Sec. IX QW-432.
Im still looking for the 2219.

NDTIII, thanks for the reply. Everywhere I look it is not recommended that you weld 2219. But somebody has to do it. I'm going to write the procedure, WPS / PQR and see what happens. Going to incorporate the Meta-Lax vibe(Weld Conditioning) system into the equation and go for it. Thanks for the info. Drop a line if you find that "P" number for the 2219 material.

Try these links. I cannot find a P-number for 2219. I do know it is Aircraft aluminum and the recommeded filler metal is 2319.

It doesn't seem to be referenced in ASME Sec. II or IX, but it is referenced in AMS-4031.

Give me your email address and I will send you something about it.

There may be no particular ASME P, or S Number assigned for your particular alloy, and, thus, the base material would be "unassigned". In that case, you would record the base metal identity in the PQR data, per ASME, and subsequent WPS(s) would be restricted to that particular material. See QW-420, QW-424.

Hi wonderweld

You have to remember that ASME IX is part of the ASME Boiler and pressure vessel code. As such, it only really covers materials that will typically be used in such applications. It is my bet that Alloy 2219 is not usually used in these applications. As noted in one of the other posts, you can just make it "unassigned" and move further from there. At any rate, it would be easier if you had an ASTM spec and/or an UNS number. Then it would be easier to search for it in ASME IX.
