Whats up guys, I just found this forum and I've been reading for over an hour now. Seems great!

Anyway, my question is at what temperature does mild steel glow red? I don't feel like going through my huge pile of welding books and notes from school. Thanks!

There are two stages.

Black red at 700 to 750 deg. c
White red above 800 deg. c

This is a qualitative answer, but you need to state for what purpose you need this information. You can measure it with a pyrometer for accurate results.

BM146,

Welcome to the forum. Here is a link to a basic guide to ferrous metallurgy. It is in color and has a list of terms. This is the online version of the chart distributed by Tempil.
