I am brazing 304 series stainless nipples onto brass valves using 50N silver solder and high temp stay silv flux. My question is how can I make the job of removing the oxidation from the valve body easier than it currently is? ( I currently dip them in nitric acid ) I need something that is as effective as acid but a little more enviromentally friendly. Is there a better procedure?

If its of any help, we soak parts in denatured alcohol (after cleaning) but we are working with Stelite and 4XX SS no Brass.
