I recently received some customer-supplied material for the construction of a Pressure Vessel. During my receiving Inspection I’ve placed some 4” 150 lbs. slip on flanges on hold.
I did not have any MTR’s for this material.
Our customer is telling me that they never order MTR’s with any Flanges.
We on the other hand have always requested MTR’s with all Flanges on code Jobs.
At what point does the code stop?
I always thought it was the first Flanged Connection. Is this wrong and what paragraph addresses this issue?

For flanges to meet the requirements of the code the objective quality evidence available is the marking. The marking should be in accordance with the ANSI specification.

See UG93(a)2

Have a nice day

The Data Sheet will indicate the jurisdiction of the code. In many cases this is at the nozzle flange face, but the code can extend through interconnecting piping in say stacked shell and tube exchangers.

MTRs for ASME Code material are only required when the applicable material specifications specifies that they be supplied. Or, if like many companies do, shot themselves in the foot and require them in their Quality Program.
