Hi River -

Aluminum can be brazed to steel if the steel is plated with at least 0.0005 inches of electrolytic nickel before brazing. It is suggested that the brazing filler metal to be used is AWS A5.8, BAlSi-4.

If you would like to have the assembly Salt bath aluminum brazed I wold recommend as expert in that field.

Contact David Kane , ADB Industries, Burbank, CA, 818-845-6964.

In reference to using a Al-Si-Mg brazing filler metal there are varying amounts of Mg in all of the aluminum brazing filler metals listed in AWS A5.8 Specification. BAlSi-4 has 0.10%Mg, BalSi-7 & 11 have 1.0-2.0% Mg. All can be used.
