If you are an AWS Member, have you looked at the Brazing Q & A Column that generally appears every other month in your Welding Journal??

If you are not a member it is time you become an AWS member so you will receive the Welding Journal and can read the Brazing Q & A Columns.

Each Brazing Q & A is the solution of a shop floor brazing problem from a company doing brazing. It also discusses many other brazing variables which could appear at another time. Eleven years of the previously monthly Brazing Q & A Columns starting in 1989 have been incorporated in a book titled BRAZING FOOTPRINTS. The book is available from Global Engineering Documents (800-854-7179), ASM and Wall Colmonoy Corp.

Hi rliker -
The braze welding process using the 0.035 silicon bronze wire and GMAW process is very good and should be a good process for the application.

If I understand your truss design there is no groove where the filler metal is applied. The filler metal is applied as a fillet at the truss joints. If there was an opening between members the process would meet the requirements of braze- welding per AWS A3.0:2001.

If applying fillets only it would be necessary to contact the A3.0 and B2.2 Committees for their consideration. The final approval would have to come from the D1.3 Committee so they should be contacted with your design and data.
