I am looking for a crawler manufacturer / supplier for internal radiography of a 4 inch x 11.1 ( I/D 92.1 mm ) pipeline lay job. It may either be a gamma or x-ray tube.

Please help to source this one out.

Hi ajoy!

There is a company from the UK called JME ltd. that manufactures only gamma ray crawlers for the ID dimension you're looking for...
The smallest ID's available for X-ray crawlers is 6 inches...

It is called the 3/6 gamma crawler. 3/6 means it can be used in ID's from 3" to 6". These are self propelled systems.

More info can be found at the sites:

http://www.jme.co.uk/crawler.html

Here is the data sheet for the 3/6:

Hope this helps.

Morning, ssbn727
That is an incredible machine! I have seen a gamma crawler for 8" pipeline inspection, but I never thought they would go as small as 3". That's a pretty small source to object distance! I have given up my NRC license, but I have an alliance with a company that might find this very interesting.

In the old days, we started using the cable type crawlers, then in the 70's and 80's, moved to the self propelled crawlers by ITE & XMAS. but their models were from 12" to 22" & 24" to 60". On the larger OD ones, the battery pack was replaced with a little generator and you hooked up a fan on the end of the starting joint to supply the engine some air.

Later....

Hey Thirdeye, ajoy!

Here are two articles that might be of interest to you both:

This first one talks about AUT methods in comparison with RT crawlers used for internal pipeline girth welds... The pro's and con's between the two etc. http://www.ndtcabin.com/articles/tsc-auto.php

This second one talks more about JME ltd.- "Safe ecology signalling system" research for remote control of the crawlers, etc.
I think you'll find both of them interesting.
