Need to know if I can run propane/natural-gas/mapp/propylene through my Oxy-Acetylene rig without changing anything other than the tips. I've checked the manual and it doesn't have any info on this.

Do I need a new regulator/hose/ect to run these alternative fuels, or can I use what I already have?

I do a lot of metal forming, and some glass forming and would like to have the option of using propane since it's a bit more mild than acetylene.

Help a greenhorn welder out!
Thanks.

Call the torch and gauge manufacturer with the model number. They will have the correct answer. Different materials for seats and seals reacts to different gases. The hoses should be okay.

Actually, the only thing you need to replace (other than tips) is the hose. standard R grade hose is designed for acetylene only. you will need to run T grade hose (will say on the packaging -for alternate fuels) the rubber lining in the fuel hose deteriorates from the addatives in alternate fuels.

Just to be perfectly clear on this tricky subject.

Grade R-RM fuel gas hoses are for acetylene only.

Grade T fuel gas hoses can be used with Acetylene, Mapp, Propylene, Hydrogen, Propane and natural gas.

Check and see what you currently have.
