Up Topic Welding Industry / Technical Discussions / stick repair to FCAW-SS?

(I'm sorry if this has been addressed over and over again here; I looked & couldn't find anything.)

I keep hearing about how stick is inappropriate for repair of FCAW-SS because of flux incompatibilities, but I can't find anything barring this in D1.1 or D1.5.

Is it or ain't it a problem?

There are a number of articles on this topic. Lincoln addresses the non-compatibility of some of their FCAW-SMAW electrodes in the Fabricators and Erectors Guide to Welded Steel Constrcution,section 6.10. Primarily notch-toughness is the issue.

Why isn't it in the code? Should it be?

If the D1.8 ever gets published, I believe this issue is addressed in that document.

Additional:
D1.8:200X, Annex II-Intermix CVN Testing of Filler Metal Combinations

D1.8 = seismic?

Makes me wonder if it should be in D1.5.
