Au is the chemical symbol of gold, so it DOES NOT contain any iron.
Fe is the chemical symbol of iron, so, whatever Mar means (martensitic perhaps?) it CONTAINS iron.
Stainless steel, as any other steel, CONTAINS iron.
Where does rusting come into the picture?

Perhaps austinitic, ferritic, and martensitic? I hate it when people do that too...

gls,
You probably figured out what he was trying to state with the designations.

Hi Giovanni,
I knew those elements too except he asked specifically if it had Fe iron in it, so I posted the element chart.
Au is gold, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out the "Mar". At first I thought maybe it was a typo, so I was looking at the keyboard at all the letters close to it and then I saw no resemblance of anything on the element chart, so I gave up.

I'm missing something here... The topic of this particular forum was rusting of stainless steel. So, what is the question? I guess the author never got to that point. <smile>
