Hello, everyone!
I'm looking for a good link with pictures and description of Joints design (e.g. double-V Butt Joint, Tack Joints and etc). I'll be realy thankful!
Working on Sakhalin-2 Project, where CRC-Evans technologies are used.
Due to my non-technical education, sometimes it is difficult to get the point of the Joint Designs. Waiting for your answer, specialists!

Thanks a lot for help!
Joint and Bevel designs are really useful!!

I suggest that you get your hands on someone's AWS D1.1, Structural Welding Code, Steel.
Then you could study section 3 and learn about joint designs and the technicalities involved.

Good Luck!
Tim

Do you have an idea where can I get it?
I mean, any link or maybe you've got it in electronic form:)
As far as I understand, this is only american regulations and not used worldwide (Or it's based on API?). Anyway, if you don't mind, please clarify:)

They are used world-wide. In fact we arecurrently fabricating a project to be shipped to Moscow within a month. D1.1 is governing code. E-mail me and I will get you some details.

If you have a Quality department or an Engineering dept at your work place, they'll have the codebook.
The AWS D1.1 code is used, or referenced to, extensively throughout the world. Of course there are other codes out there as well, but as far as joint designs are concerned, those outlined in the AWS code are pretty standard. Of course it doesn't list every joint design conceivable, it just details those that work so well that the code considers them to be pre-qualified or trustworthy.
You may buy your own codebooks on line by linking to Global Engineering through the AWS.org web site, however, they are expensive.

Good Luck,
Tim

I believe AWS may sell old editions of D1.1 at a big discount. I think 1996 edition may be available- it was the year that the D1.1 had the radical changes made. The pre-qualified joints can't have changed much, if any since then, and for your purposes.

Vitaly,
My name is Kip Mankenberg, and I worked on the fabrication of the Sakhalin II Lun-A and PA-B topsides in Korea. AWS D1.1 is the structural steel welding code for that portion of the project.

I see you state that CRC-Evans is being used. Can I assume that you are associated with the pipeline portion of the project? The joint designs used for the mechanized GMAW welding of pipeline butt joints are fairly specialized, and are unlike what you will find sketched in D1.1. You might try CRC-Evans website, or the websites of companies involved in the UT exam of pipeline girth welds, such as R/D Tech or Shaw Pipeline. It is possible you will find some representative cross-section sketches there.

Yes, you are right, I'm working for General Contractor for Onshore Pipelines (gas and oil) Construction. Well thanks for information, 'cause I've already started to look for this welding code...
yes we have something like this, but UT is additional, and primary is Radiography (X-ray exam). Some sketches are available, but anyway some specific joints can not be named excactly by anyone. The documents I'm looking through currently is Russain Regualtions for visual and measuring controls, and when I showed the designs of joints pictured therein, a CRC specialist told me only one excact thing, that the design like this is not used on this Project. Well, that was honest:) but anyway what that can be...
