Looking for a bit of a history lesson. My dad has worked in the oil and gas fields known as the San Juan Basin located in northwest New Mexico for over 30 years now. And over those years he brought home a length of 12" pipe that had been pulled up and replaced. This pipe was put together much like a paper towel roll. It had a twisted seam and looked to be hand welded. He told me that he thinks that when the area had boomed during WWII, woman welders did a lot of the pipeline work back then and this pipe was some of the stuff they worked on. Just wondering if there is anyone out there knows a little of the weld history from the San Juan Basin or similar area.
Gotta know where you been to know where your going.

Regards, Donnie Mann

http://www.naylorpipe.com/about.asp

this web site may give you some background and history of the pipe

I believe they still use a limited amount of SMAW for some variations of their product.
