D1.1's section 2 ('design'), subsection 2.27.5 ('cyclic loaded NON-TUBULAR') states in part, '...bevel and j-grooves in butt joints for other than the horozontal postion are prohibited', yet elsewhere in section 3's ('prequalification'), figure 3.3 and 3.4 (Note "Br"), D1.1 omits any direct mentioning of the subject 2G restriction of NON-TUBULAR or TUBULAR applications. Seems odd D1.1' only restricts these joints when they're "non-tubular" and readers glancing at the Note "Br" are prone to 'mistakenly' applying the restriction to also to the prequalified tubular's. Can anybody explain why what's good for the goose isn't or wouldn't be good for the gander, and why it appears not ?
