We are getting ready to start a new project and we will be using A572-gr65 base material, 1/4" & 3/16" thick, we want to use a metal core wire but E80C-6M isn't readly available through our supplier. My question is can we use a E90C-6M wire as a substitute?
Any help would be much appreciated.

AWS D1.1 Table3.1 The only filler metal prequalified to weld A572 GR 65 are filler metals in the 80 range. But if you wanted to pay to qualify a weld procedure on A572 GR 65 welded with E90C-6M, I cannot see any reason why you could not use the 90.
