I sold a customer 3 rolls of Hard Facing mig wire and when they used 2 rolls of it, it cracked right down the middle of the bead as far as they ran the bead. The crack was open about 1/16th to 1/8th inch wide. I know that most hard facing products has stress relief cracks across the weld, but I never seen any crack the length of the bead. All 3 rolls of wire was from the same batch and we have had no problems with any of the other rolls from this batch. The customer has been using this same product on the application for months with no problems, I also sent him some more on monday and it is working fine.

Any idea's of what could be going on here ?

Longitudinal or centerline cracking is associated with poor bead shape and is caused by making the bead too flat. To help avoid this problem, use a stringer bead or minimum weave bead and low current. Also, be sure fillet welds are slightly convex. The preheat range will be determined by the type of material you are hardsurfacing.
