Does D1.6 have a table giving minimum fillet weld sizes similar to Table 5.8 in AWS D1.1-2002? In D1.6, I can find Table 7.2, Figure 3.3 and the maximum size fillet weld in Section 3.14.1, but I cannot locate the table that indicates minimum size fillet welds. Is there one in D1.6?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Doug

The index sends us to Table 3.5.

Thank you. D1.6-1999 Table 3.5 contains a lot of info on maximum sizes of eletrodes and maximum pass thicknesses, but is silent on minimum weld size vs. material thickness of the pieces being joined. D1.1 for carbon steel has such a requirement, is there none for stainless steel?

I've made an inquiry to a D1.6 committee member to see if this was by intent or an inadvertant omission. Naturally, if he provides a response it will be just an opinion. If you want an "official" answer you may wish to prepare a technical inquiry (See Annex D). You can get the Secretary of the Structural Welding Committee e-mail address from the AWS "Contact AWS" listing at the bottom of the homepage, then go to Technical Services. Will keep you updated if I get a response.

From one who knows MUCH better than myself; here's what he said:

Section 3, Fig 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 provide details and 5.11 specifies
sizes--the eng.to tell you.

Once again, thank you very much. I'm still somewhat mystified that AWS D1.6 Table 7.2 exists for weld studs, yet no such clear concise table exists for fillet welding of material thicknesses in general.

Well, keep in mind, the 1999 edition of D1.6 is a first issue. I'm sure as it continues to evolve these things will change and or be added!
