any place i can get some info,ser.#ug 000729,continental gas y112-452-314-428,will generator unit work on big 40 diesel,don`t have any nu.# on big 40,i`m haveing a starter problem with big 20,could use some direction to find out info. on both units... thanks

Take a look at that serial number on the Big 20. If it is HG, unit is 1976, if JG, 1986. I am guessing a 1986 since the earlier Big 20's used the F163 engine, the Y112 being used later - smaller engine. We probably have starter for it. The earlier Big 40 diesels used 4 cylinder Continental engine, later ones a 3 cylinder. I don't think you would have a prayer of putting 20 generator on 40, but make sure you want to as there are many pieces around for both units. The 20 has an auto alternator, belt driven, on the end of generator - that is the exciter. Thanks, weldersales

it is a flathead,if that helps,please a price on stater,also was told unit cuts out after 5 or 6 min.s was told bad compresion,i don`t have acces to the welder yet,sounds more like electrical problem,modgule??,starter not capable of starting it to find out,would like to use for backup power at the house durring blackouts,i`m told it is the JG ,would kind of like to know the power out of gen. please email strter price and shipping cost to saltydeadfish@yahoo.com thank you ...sorry zip code 30127
