Can a dc welder be used to weld aluminum? The reason I ask is that I just bought a miller cst 280 and should have done a little homework first before buying it.

I'm not familiar with your machine. Does it have constant current or constant voltage.

What process are you using GTAW or GMAW ? Is the machine a CC or CV machine.

It's GTAW and SMAW. Thats about all I know. Sorry for the lack of info.

The Miller CST 280 you purchased is only good for SMAW and DC GTAW. Not sure of your application, but you can SMAW weld aluminum assuming you match an electrode to the type of current (AC/DC) capabilities of your machine.
But specifically,,your machine is NOT capable of AC GTAW.
