Up Topic American Welding Society Services / Certifications / Prequalified T-K-Y connections question

Are the T-K-Y prequalified joint details shown in fig. 3.8, 3.9, & 3.10 only prequalified using SMAW and FCAW processes?

I would like to use GMAW-G process, and intend to qualify a "pipe to pipe" open root WPS weld one side only, 6G position, with a joint detail as shown in fig 4.24. Then test the welders in both 6G pipe, and 6GR T-K-Y fig. 4.27. Writing the TKY WPS's in accordance to the prequalified TKY joint details.

The conflict I am having is in reading section 3.13.4.1 regarding the T-K-Y CJP pre-qualified perameters. Is GMAW(G) still prequalified?

In reading the commentary section, C4.12 says that "qualification may be required when using a process outside its prequalification range (i.e., GMAW-S)". So is SAW, or GMAW-G in fact acceptable?
