FCAW has been the choice wire when it comes to filling and capping on pipes for fast production. Have any of you pros had any experience with regards to using Metal Cored Wire Welding (MCWW) on pipe for production work. I just completed a procedure on 3/4" plate using MCWW from root pass to cap pass. The results are not back from the lab yet. The process seems to be fast because there was no slag to clean-up between passes. Would like to here from some of you regarding this process.

We tried it here and most of the welders preferred the FCAW over the metal core wire. Our steel isn't really clean enough for Metal core. If you blast or clean your steel ahead of welding, it should do OK. With all the mill scale and such, the FCAW just works better for us.
