Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense. Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn’t always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more then you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).

His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. – Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge financial settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on; if not, join the majority and do nothing.

It truly is a sad day indeed.

I suppose, (being a baby boomer myself) every generation since time begun has made the same laments yet in my short 51 years on planet earth I too have seen far, far too many changes for the worse.

At what point in time did our democracy disappear? Why does the voice of minority outrule that of majority? Why is it bad to say the name of the spiritual Being our country was founded upon, with freedom of persecution for those who believe otherwise?

I guess if the Supreme Court rules that we can no longer take a quite moment of prayer in our schools (I don't ever remember being forced to actually verbalize prayer when I was in school), or if God cannot be recognized in our courtrooms or schools, then perhaps they should also make it mandatory that those Judges and Governmental employee's not be provided ANY religious holidays either... No Christmas, Easter, Passover, Hanukah, Kwanzaa. No more "In God We Trust" perhaps money should also be against the law? Seems people doing the bitching only want to "solve" 1/2 the problem.... Yeah, I really and truly do mourn the passing of common sense, it was wonderful while it lasted...

I agree with you if the government wants to try and ban the Bible and prayer then I think Congress should work 7 days a week and I should get my mail on Sunday.

I bet if you had to believe in God to get a religious holiday off of work, the minority would shut up quick and you could not beat them hard enough to make them speak out agianst prayer in school or anywhere else.

I am just waiting til some employee at a department store says happy holidays to me instead of MERRY CHRISTMAS, just so I can tell the store manager if I cannot get told MERRY CHRISTMAS when I walk in the door I believe I will spent my money somewhere else.

I don't live a Christian life, but the effort to eliminate God and Christ from any and all public declarations and displays really torques my shorts. All across our nation schools no longer allow Christmas programs or the singing of Christmas carols. Many are required to refer to Christmas holidays as winter holidays, Christmas trees as holiday trees and manger scenes are not allowed to be displayed. Some major retail stores have declared there is to be no Merry Christmas in their customer greetings or in their advertising even though a national survey found that 92 percent liked the Merry Christmas greeting. What’s happened? Thirty or 40 years ago this was never even thought of. All this is being done under the claim that such things promote a particular religion and discriminates against non Christians or believers of other religions. Never mind allowing the displays or mentioning of other religions such as Islam and its Star and Crescent, the Jewish Menorah, statues of Buddha with burning incense, etc. We are told that we must allow these because it’s important that we, and our children, learn about these religions to better understand their people. And after all, this country was founded on the declaration of religious tolerance. Confronted by this I must ask where then is the religious tolerance for Christianity? There is no mistake that what we are seeing is the continuing and growing effort, not only to take Christ out of Christmas, but also to remove Him from every aspect of American life. But it is nothing new. It began in A.D. 1 and will continue throughout the ages with continued limited success. But no matter. In the minds and hearts of my family and myself, there will ALWAYS be a Christmas. This growing anti-Christ crowd can take Christ out of their Christmas, but they can never take Christ out of ours. May you all have a CHRIST centered Merry Christmas, and may God bless.

I hope you guys arent the kind that whine about things then vote the same idiots in every year,if you dont like it change it,boycott it,changes were made in the earlier year by joining together and changing things, dont like foreign products dont buy them, dont like the way they treat christmas, dont participate in their commercial version, complain complain, then follow,go in the store and say"merry christmas"if anyone says anything, leave. If you dont like it,change it.As far as common sence, there is none.If you want to be voted in to office in California say will kick out all illegal aliens,if you want to change the way christmas is celebrated complain when you see another religion being allowed,do as they do,but it wont be easy.

Is the original post referring to Ratboy69? I'm trying to grasp what the intent of the post was???? Since, commonsense has been fading for quite some time...

And not to ruffle any feathers, since I'm new to the board, but we live in a Constitutional Republic(not a democracy), whereby, the voice of the minority is afforded protections from the majority.

I am dismayed by the assault on religion, all religion, but we live in a Constitutional Republic which is guided by the Rule of Law. If the law is constraining, petition a referendum, to reform the law. But unfortunately, the law is on the atheist/and such side at this time...IMHO

Michael; I'll be the very first to admit my ignorance when it comes to political issues, perhaps we do live in a constitutional republic and perhaps my ignorance keeps me from knowing the difference but, if I'm not mistaken, when we preach about the greatness of our political system to the rest of the world, do we know preach that our principles are founded upon democracy? Isn't that supposedly what we're trying to cause to be instituted in Iraq? (God, please spare me from attacks, just trying to make an example!)....

Once again apologizing for my ignorance but I was always of the opinion that in a democracy it was "majority rules?" I know this is off topic of the message board but my ears are open and I'm thinking perhaps there may be a chance for me to learn something new?

Re attacks on religion; I don't think there has been a single "attack" on any religious belief in this entire post, perhaps some belly-aching about what seems to be our system taking the side of the minority vs the apparent majority but certainly not attacks. Just my humble opinion...

Jon, I don't know how this relates to "R-boy's" posting because I dont read his graphs :) But I'm happy to respond to you :)

I don't at all mind straying a bit from time to time from the topic or program. Ronald Regan did it in nearly every speech he gave during his eight years as U.S. president.

Democracy (in it's pure state) means mob rule. The majority may outlaw anything or anybody for than matter. Really more like Socialisim if the truth is told. Funny how Socialist nations have the most oppressive centeral governments when they are supposed to be driven purely (in theory) by mandates of the masses (prolitariat.)

A constitutional Republic has multiple branches of government and a baseline for absolutes of right and wrong which the branches and population must abide by, (a constitution).

The word Democracy and it's varients may mean just about anything. Many of the Eastern Block Communist governments (before they fell) were called "democratic" and even today China is referred as a "Peoples Republic". So names don't really mean so much. Its what nations do that will distinguish them in the end eh?

Jon, no worries. I hope I didn't offend you or anyone in my previous post. I think Lawrence summed up the democracy/c.republic thing pretty well. I also wanted to make clear, that I in no way wanted to suggest that religous attacks were taking part on this thread, or this board for that matter. It's quite the opposite from what I've read. Your assumption regarding my previous post's intent was correct...I hope everyone had/has a merry Christmas and a happy New Year

Thanks guy's! I appreciate the informative responses! No offense taken at all, I appreciate now knowing the difference and think perhaps this posting was just a venting. Had a great Christmas (wayyyy too fast though) and am looking forward to a very happy New Year and wish the same to all the great people in this Forum!
