Im thinking about purchasing a miller syncrowave 180d primarily for tig. Im new to welding. I would be using it on thinner materials more often than thicker stock, aluminum and stainless primarily, but also some mild steel. Ive got 220v in the garage but its only 50amps. However, I probably wouldn't be running anywhere near max with it. Anyone have any comments on this welder and this choice for me? I already have an oxy setup, a Lincoln ac-225, and a Hobart Handler 140 mig. Thanks for the advice.

According to Miller's catalogue that machine will draw 54 amps at 150 amps 26 volts. Your TIG arc with argon shouldn't be above 20 volts so the 50 amp breaker should hold. AC is the tough one on breakers. You can make most of Miller's Syncrowaves act more powerful by unbalancing the squarewave AC and go for maximum penetration setting. Using that setting with the sharpened 2% Thorium or Cerium tungsten gets the arc in a very small spot. Forget about balling the tungsten on AC.
