Alloy 330, a pure austenitic material, is prone to cracking due to the lack of ferrite. Try this: 1) Deposit a heavier bead. Shallow beads tend to cool faster and have the tendancy to have solidification cracking in the higher nickel alloys. 2) Do not use a high heat input. 3) Interpass temperature should not exceed 200F. 4) If the part you are welding is >3/8", a slight preheat (to slow down the cooling rate) will allow the weld pool to cool without cracks. I think this will help you.

Thanks, Jon. Good seeing you, too. Christmas was great!! Going tonight to a little Bar and Grille to hear Kenny and the Cruisers ( a local Dallas band from the 70's) They use to open for the Beach Boys and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Kenny is one of my Harley riding buddies. Long live Rock 'n Roll !!! :-) The first one will be for you...

Hey, for Christmas,(sorry if this is politicly incorrect, but yes, Christmas) I received from our cat Niki, (bought by my wife), a Pink Floyd sweatshirt. On the tag, was written, Rock on you old F***, LOL

Happy New year to all, and to all, (classic) ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!!

I am sure I will be buggin quite a few of you quite a bit in the coming days and months. Considering taking the task of welding foreman/QA on the constuction of a new B&W boiler being built in the state.
Wish me luck.

Mike

You're welcome, Jeff. Remember, that advice applies to your higher nickel Stainless Steels and the nickel alloys as well. Happy and prosperous New Year to you, too.
