I have an AWS D3.6 on order but am curious about a couple of things and can't wait for the code to arrive.

Does 3.6 have prequalified weld procedures?

Is welder testing any different than that required by D1.1, other than the fact that it must be done underwater?

Does it allow a prime contractor to test and certify other companies welders? We are looking at subcontracting some wet welding but wish to make sure the divers welding is up to code standards.

Thanks
Charles

edit: I'll be away from my computer for the next week. If anyone answers, thanks. I'll check back sometime after the 12th.

At the company that I work for we have to test for each welding job, some companies out there will take anothers tests as valid. The thing to keep in mind is that the qualification for wet welding is good for 1 atmosphere above and below the qualification depth. As far as I know the tests that we do are in accordance to the D1.1 just all the welds like you said are done underwater.

Hope this helps.
